Global experts gather to discuss smoking cessation at UN Week event

The 3rd Annual "New Approaches Forum" will be held on September 23, 2024, at the Harvard Club in New York City, coinciding with UN Week. The event aims to reduce smoking-related harm and save up to 1 billion lives this century. The World Health Organization reports over 1.1 billion people still smoke combustible cigarettes, leading to over 8 million deaths annually. The Forum will address the economic and environmental impacts of tobacco use, aligning with several UN Sustainable Development Goals. Leaders from various sectors will discuss strategies for tobacco control and harm reduction. Case studies from the Czech Republic, New Zealand, and Sweden will highlight progress toward lower smoking rates. A new report on tobacco harm reduction research will also be presented.
