Germany opens drone security research center after Leipzig/Halle incident

ruhrnachrichten.de (German)

Germany will build a national drone security research center after an explosive-laden drone was found near Leipzig/Halle airport, Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said. The center opens August 18 at the German Aerospace Center's test airport in Cochstedt, Saxony-Anhalt, to develop and test protective technologies with security authorities. At Leipzig/Halle, a drone carrying explosives was found near Ukrainian planes; an aborting flight hit an unknown object. Dobrindt called the incident an act of hybrid warfare by foreign powers, saying Germany faces daily espionage, sabotage, and cyberattacks, though not war.
