Germany introduces digital vehicle registration app

Germany has launched a new app allowing drivers to store their vehicle registration digitally on their smartphones. This aims to reduce paperwork and simplify compliance during traffic stops. The i-Kfz app, introduced by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, enables drivers to present their digital vehicle registration during checks. The app also provides updates on registration status and reminders for vehicle inspections. A digital driver's license is planned for late next year, and future plans include a digital wallet for various personal documents. However, paper documents remain valid and are still required for international travel.
