After an explosives-laden drone was found at Leipzig-Halle airport, Germany will expand drone security research, Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt announced. A new facility at the German Aerospace Center’s test airport in Saxony-Anhalt will open Aug. 18 to develop and test counter-drone technologies. The discovery briefly halted airport operations; a DHL cargo plane reportedly collided with an unidentified small aircraft. Two drones were also sighted over an air base in western Germany on Aug. 6. Dobrindt warned Germany faces daily hybrid attacks; some politicians blame Russia, which denies involvement.
