Germany establishes new military division for homeland security
Germany is creating a new land forces division focused on homeland security. This unit will secure critical infrastructure and military sites, transitioning from non-active reservists to a semi-active status under army command starting in April. The division will consist of over 6,000 personnel, combining active soldiers and reservists. It aims to enhance Germany's defense capabilities amid rising concerns about Russian aggression, particularly following the invasion of Ukraine. The new division will protect vital assets like ports, railways, and digital infrastructure. It will also support NATO operations and assist in emergencies, marking a significant shift in Germany's military structure and readiness.
