German party considers troop deployment to Ukraine premature
The CDU/CSU party in Germany considers discussing sending troops to Ukraine premature. They believe discussions about German peacekeeping forces are pointless until Russia agrees to a peace deal. The party's parliamentary group leader, Alexander Hoffmann, stated that discussing German participation in a peacekeeping mission is premature as no peace has been concluded. He emphasized that a basis for German contribution is lacking until Russia is ready for a deal respecting Ukraine's sovereignty. Hoffmann added that Germany and Europe will contribute to Ukraine's post-war security, but now is not the time to discuss troops. This follows a statement from Manfred Weber suggesting German soldiers under an EU flag could be deployed if a peace deal is reached.
