German electricity providers cut prices for basic supply customers

spiegel.de (German)

Over 100 electricity providers in Germany have announced price reductions for customers in basic supply tariffs. This change is expected to benefit approximately 3.4 million households with lower electricity costs. The price decreases are primarily attributed to reduced grid fees and lower wholesale electricity prices. Around half of all basic electricity suppliers in Germany have already lowered their prices by an average of nine percent since the start of the year. Many households are unaware that switching from basic supply to a special contract could save them hundreds of euros annually. The basic supply tariff applies to customers without a specific contract, often served by local utility companies.
