German authorities arrest Romanian woman in Russian-linked espionage plot

Romania's Foreign Ministry confirmed Thursday that German authorities arrested a Romanian woman in an espionage investigation tied to a foiled Russian plot. Berlin executed an arrest warrant issued by Germany's Federal Court of Justice. The 45-year-old suspect, detained in Rheine, Germany, allegedly helped prepare attacks or assassination attempts against German defense industry executives who supply weapons to Ukraine. A 43-year-old Ukrainian man was arrested separately in Spain. Prosecutors say Russia recruits so-called "disposable agents" via social media for sabotage tasks. The woman reportedly filmed the residence of Stefan Thumann, director of German startup Donaustahl, after gaining Romanian citizenship.
