Georgia man receives 475-year sentence for illegal dog fighting operation

Vincent Lemark Burrell, a 57-year-old man from Georgia, was sentenced to 475 years in prison for running an illegal dog fighting operation. He was convicted of 93 felony counts of dog fighting and 10 misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty. This sentence is the longest ever given for dog fighting in the U.S. Each dog fighting charge added five years to his sentence, while each animal cruelty charge added one year. Burrell's attorney has filed a motion for a new trial, claiming the verdict lacks evidence and is against the weight of the evidence presented.
