Genetic research traces Ukrainians to Bronze Age steppe ancestors

Genetic research reveals modern Ukrainians descend from Indo-Europeans who inhabited these lands since the third millennium BCE, scientists announced after studying the ancient Dykyi Sad settlement. Archaeologist Kyrylo Horbenko said European researchers since 2017-2018 analyzed skull fragments from Mykolaiv excavations. Ukrainians trace lineage to Yamna (3000-2600 BCE) and Catacomb (2600-2200 BCE) cultures of the Bronze Age, which superseded late Trypillians. Horbenko stressed Ukraine has always been culturally part of Europe beyond EU political boundaries. Indo-Europeans and Trypillians together contributed to the genome of modern European peoples.
