Gene Hackman dies a week after his wife Betsy Arakawa in Santa Fe

Betsy Arakawa died in February 2025 from a Hantavirus lung infection, with her husband Gene Hackman dying alone about a week later. Investigators found Arakawa died of Hantavirus and Hackman, who had Alzheimer's, of cardiovascular disease. He may not have realized his wife had died due to his condition. The couple lived reclusively. Hackman, a two-time Oscar winner, had retired from Hollywood.
