Gardener, 75, seriously injured after excavator hood collapses in Buda di Medicina

A 75-year-old Italian gardener was seriously injured on Monday afternoon when the engine hood of an excavator suddenly gave way and struck him in Buda di Medicina, near Bologna. He was rushed to hospital by air ambulance in critical condition but has since stabilized. The man, employed by a landscaping company, was performing routine maintenance in a wildlife area on Via Canale when the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on August 31. Colleagues raised the alarm immediately, and emergency services, including a helicopter, responded. He remains hospitalized with multiple traumas but is not in life-threatening danger. Carabinieri from Castel Guelfo and the Occupational Medicine unit of the Imola health authority are investigating the accident's cause. The incident follows the recent death of 46-year-old Sergio Vaioli in Pianoro, who suffered a fatal medical emergency while doing gardening work on August 31.
