Funding boost secures Heartland Flyer train service through September as ridership rises
The Amtrak Heartland Flyer train route between Oklahoma City and Fort Worth will continue operating at least until September, thanks to a $100,000 funding boost from the North Central Texas Council of Governments. Ridership has increased significantly, with a 14% rise to nearly 125,000 passengers in the past year. Regular travelers report a positive experience, noting the comfort and reliability of the service. The Regional Transportation Council plans to seek additional state funding to maintain the route long-term. Last year, the Texas Department of Transportation increased its support when funding issues arose.
