The head of Japan's largest yakuza group, Yamaguchi-gumi, is being sued for damages related to a fraud scheme. The lawsuit seeks approximately ¥22.5 million in compensation. Five individuals in Fukuoka Prefecture filed the lawsuit, alleging they were defrauded of ¥18 million by a Yamaguchi-gumi member. The suit, filed Tuesday, names boss Kenichi Shinoda and his second-in-command, Kiyoshi Takayama, as defendants. The lawsuit utilizes a system introduced in 2023 by Fukuoka police to cover legal costs in yakuza-related cases. This is only the second time the system has been used, following a similar case in October 2024.
