FTC delays "click-to-cancel" rule enforcement until July
The Federal Trade Commission has postponed the enforcement of its "click-to-cancel" rule, designed to simplify subscription cancellations, until July 14. This delay gives companies more time to comply with the new regulations. The rule, part of the Negative Option Rule amendments, requires companies to make canceling subscriptions as easy as signing up. Telecom companies challenged the rule, but the FTC initially set enforcement for May 14. The FTC cited a need for a "fresh assessment" of compliance burdens as the reason for the delay. The agency also stated it may amend the rule if enforcement reveals unforeseen problems.
