French director convicted of sexual assault in landmark #MeToo case
A Paris court has found filmmaker Christophe Ruggia guilty of sexually assaulting actor Adèle Haenel when she was a minor. Ruggia received a two-year house arrest sentence and a two-year suspended sentence. He plans to appeal the decision. Haenel, now 35, was the first prominent French actor to speak out against sexual abuse in the film industry after the #MeToo movement began. She accused Ruggia of inappropriate behavior during the filming of "Les Diables" in the early 2000s. The ruling marks a significant moment in France's #MeToo movement, which initially faced challenges. Other actors, including Judith Godrèche, have also come forward with allegations against directors, highlighting ongoing issues in the industry.
