France will open a high-security prison this summer

France will open "super-prisons" this summer to house the most dangerous drug traffickers, aiming to isolate them and prevent criminal activity. The Vendin-le-Vieil facility is set to open July 31st. These high-security prisons, inspired by the Italian anti-mafia model, will feature strict detention regimes, including limited phone calls, restricted visitation, and enhanced surveillance to cut off inmates from outside contacts. The prison will house about 100 inmates. The initiative follows increased violence and a prison break, with the goal of disrupting criminal networks and preventing the smuggling of contraband. The new prisons will have increased staffing and enhanced security measures.
