France will ban unsolicited cold calls from 11 August, requiring prior consumer consent and imposing fines up to 375,000 euros per call for companies. Exceptions apply when firms already obtained consent, such as during a purchase or via a form, or when calls concern an existing contract. Individuals face fines up to 75,000 euros per call; companies up to 375,000 euros. Previous opt-out measures, including a registry, were ineffective. The law has raised concern in Morocco, where up to 50,000 call-centre jobs may be at risk.
