Former school district lawyer pleads no contest in Parkland shooting information case
A former attorney for Broward County Public Schools, Barbara Myrick, pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor for sharing grand jury information related to the 2018 Parkland school shooting. She faced a felony charge but received a reduced sentence. Myrick was sentenced to one year of probation, which may end after six months, and must pay over $4,700 in fees. She plans to appeal a previous ruling that denied her motion to dismiss the case. Myrick was arrested in 2021 alongside former Superintendent Robert Runcie. Runcie's case was dismissed last year but is now under appeal, while another case against a former district administrator was also recently dismissed.
