Former rebels and clan members nominated for BARMM elections in 2025
Former revolutionaries and local clan members are among the 280 nominees for party representative seats in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) elections set for 2025. The Commission on Elections released the certified list of nominees from seven regional political parties. The Bangsamoro Organic Law allocates 80 seats in the regional legislature, but a recent Supreme Court ruling reduced the number of available district seats to 25. Political parties must submit 40 nominees for party representatives, with the number of seats won based on the proportion of votes received. The elections are scheduled for May 12, 2025, but a recent measure in the House of Representatives may postpone them to 2026. Among the nominees are prominent figures from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and local political families.
