Former Osaka police officer convicted of inciting data leak

A former police officer was found guilty of inciting a colleague to leak personal information. The Osaka District Court sentenced the 69-year-old former officer, who was also an administrative scrivener, to six months in prison with a three-year suspended sentence. He had urged a police inspector to disclose third-party account information obtained under the guise of an investigation. The court stated the defendant exploited the inspector's position, obtaining others' information and significantly damaging public trust in the police. The inspector is also facing charges for leaking the account information.
