Former music teacher David Pickthall sentenced to 12 years for child sexual offenses

David Pickthall, a former music teacher and MBE, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for 29 counts of child sexual offenses against 19 victims over 40 years. His abuse included inappropriate touching and grooming, starting when victims were as young as 12. Survivors described Pickthall as a predator who exploited his position in the music community. Many victims, like Mark and Edward, reported feeling confused and manipulated, believing he was a friend while enduring abuse during lessons and social visits. Essex Police began investigating Pickthall in 2021, revealing he continued to offend until his arrest. Authorities believe there may be more victims and are encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
