Flying foxes and lorikeets fall from the sky in Australia as experts investigate paralysis syndrome
Flying Foxes and Lorikeets in southeast Queensland and northern New South Wales are mysteriously falling from the sky, with many found dead or paralyzed. This phenomenon is known as Lorikeet Paralysis Syndrome (LPS) and Flying Fox Paralysis Syndrome (FFPS). Experts have not identified the cause but suspect an environmental toxin linked to the animals' shared diet of pollen and fruit. Wildlife groups, like Bats QLD, have reported a significant increase in cases, calling it a "wildlife crisis." Symptoms include paralysis, difficulty swallowing, and breathing issues. Bats QLD noted that more Flying Fox camps are affected, with hundreds of Lorikeets now in care.
