Flinders Street to close to traffic for all of 2025 due to Metro Tunnel project

Flinders Street will close to traffic for all of 2025 due to the placement of a 200-tonne crane for the Metro Tunnel project. The closure will affect the section between Swanston and Elizabeth streets, with reduced traffic lanes in nearby areas. Pedestrian access will remain on both sides of Flinders Street, but the south side will stay closed. Additional disruptions include lane closures on the West Gate Bridge and weekend train service interruptions on several lines until mid-December. Opposition spokesperson David Southwick criticized the decision, questioning the planning of the Metro Tunnel project and the impact on traffic in the CBD.
