Five arrested in Uttar Pradesh for alleged illegal religious conversions
Police in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, arrested five individuals for allegedly trying to convert villagers to Christianity by offering money. The arrests followed a complaint from a local resident, Mahesh Chandra, who accused the suspects of misleading villagers. The accused include Ram Baran Lal, his wife Mona Lal, and three others. They are charged under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act, 2021. Authorities recovered religious texts during the arrests. Chandra's complaint claims the suspects targeted villagers with false promises of jobs and financial aid. He reported that conversion activities were held weekly at a makeshift shelter.
