A lunar lander named Blue Ghost Mission 1 has completed a successful two-week mission on the moon. Launched by Firefly Aerospace in January, it landed on the moon on March 2, marking the first successful commercial moon landing. During its mission, the lander delivered ten science and delivery payloads to the Mare Crisium basin. This area is known for being created by an asteroid impact. These payloads will help gather data and conduct scientific operations on the moon. The Blue Ghost lander has sent back stunning images, including a total solar eclipse and beautiful sunset pictures from the moon's surface. Firefly Aerospace shared these images on social media, calling the sunset view a "final goodbye." Throughout the mission, the lander transmitted 119 gigabytes of data back to Earth. It performed many unique scientific experiments, including probing the moon's subsurface and studying how solar wind interacts with Earth's magnetic field. NASA praised the mission, noting it was the longest commercial mission to date. The success sets the stage for future projects under its Commercial Lunar Payload Services program, which plans to send over 50 instruments to the moon.
