Firefighter injured in Winnipeg house fire as city faces rising vacant property blazes

A Winnipeg firefighter was injured and hospitalized after a fire at a vacant house on Aberdeen Avenue early Saturday. This incident is one of two fires at vacant homes in the William Whyte neighborhood that morning. Fire crews responded to the Aberdeen fire around 6:30 a.m. and used an aerial ladder to combat the flames. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and damage estimates are not yet available. Earlier, firefighters also controlled a fire at another vacant home on Powers Street around 2:30 a.m. No injuries were reported in that incident. The city is addressing the increasing number of fires at vacant properties.
