Feds plan to proceed with demolition of historic Pink House on Plum Island
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service plans to proceed with the demolition of the Pink House on Plum Island, despite Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey's announcement that the demolition would be paused for discussions with stakeholders. The Pink House, built in 1925, has been abandoned for years and was deemed unsafe. The federal agency acquired the house and surrounding land in 2011 to protect the area from development. An anonymous donor recently offered $1 million to save the house, but the agency cited ongoing safety and environmental concerns as reasons for the planned removal. The Pink House is currently closed to the public.
