Feds approve Zoox robotaxis without controls

Amazon's Zoox received federal approval to operate robotaxis without steering wheels or pedals on public roads. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration granted Zoox an exemption from federal rules, also closing an investigation into the company's self-certification process. This allows Zoox to compete with Waymo. Zoox's purpose-built electric vehicles feature bidirectional design and sliding doors, aiming for a unique rider experience. The company plans to launch its service in Las Vegas later this year.
