Federal workers can use TikTok on government devices again
Federal government workers can now use TikTok on official devices, according to a new Office of Management and Budget memo that reverses a 2022 ban. The decision follows a Justice Department opinion citing the app's American ownership and changed algorithm. The memo ends restrictions imposed under President Joe Biden, who cited national security concerns over TikTok's ties to China. The app was briefly shut down last year before a deal transferred control to TikTok USDS Joint Venture, with investors like Oracle and Silver Lake holding majority stakes. ByteDance retains a 19.9 percent stake in the company. Several agencies, including the Transportation and Treasury Departments, have already launched official TikTok accounts, and the White House opened one last year.
