Federal Judge Blocks Trump's Birthright Citizenship Order

The decision prevents the order from taking effect. U.S. District Judge Deborah Boardman issued the 35-page ruling after a Maryland nonprofit updated its complaint. The judge noted the Supreme Court had already blocked Trump's earlier January 2025 order, and the new directive targeted specific groups like children of "alien enemies" or foreign embassy workers. The White House called the judge an "activist" and Attorney General Todd Blanche said the administration will appeal, potentially returning to the Supreme Court. The State Department has also proposed requiring parents to show citizenship proof for children's passports.
