Federal government allocates $2.4 billion for railroad upgrades across 41 states
The federal government is distributing $2.4 billion in grants for 122 railroad projects across 41 states and Washington, D.C. More than half of the funding will support smaller railroads, focusing on track and bridge upgrades. The largest grant, $215 million, will help replace a key Hudson River bridge in New York. Other significant projects include nearly $160 million for track consolidation in Illinois and $100 million for climate-resilient tracks in California. The funding also aims to develop hydrogen-powered locomotives and improve intermodal facilities. Nearly $1.3 billion will specifically benefit 81 smaller railroads, enhancing their efficiency and service capabilities.
