Federal District election sees higher turnout, lower blank and null votes in 2026 runoff

g1.globo.com (Portuguese) —

In the 2026 second round of elections in Brazil's Federal District, voter turnout increased while blank and null votes decreased, with Celina Leão (PP) elected governor for the next four years. A record 2,253,132 voters were eligible, the highest in history. Both Leão and Leandro Grass (PT) increased their vote totals compared to the first round, gaining 161,612 and 169,200 additional votes respectively. In the presidential race, Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) won in the district with 54.28% of valid votes against Lula's 45.72%. Analysts attribute the higher turnout to second-round mobilization and clearer electoral choices.
