Federal authorities arrest Venezuelan gang members in Florida
Federal law enforcement in Florida arrested 14 illegal immigrants, including suspected members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, last week. This operation was made possible by the newly enacted Laken Riley Act, which allows for the detention of certain public safety risks. The Laken Riley Act, signed into law by President Trump in January, targets illegal immigrants who pose a threat to public safety. This law was named after Laken Riley, a nursing student murdered by an illegal immigrant in 2024. Previously, some individuals like those arrested may not have been detained under immigration laws. The act aims to enhance the ability of Immigration and Customs Enforcement to remove dangerous criminals from the streets.
