Family of England's Jack Charlton faces €233,000 tax to keep his 1966 World Cup medal

Jack Charlton's family face an inheritance tax bill of up to €233,000 if they want to keep his 1966 World Cup winner's medal. His son John said tax authorities assessed around £200,000 for the medal, so he returned it to his 93-year-old mother Pat, who still owns it; he added the same problem will arise after her death. Charlton died in 2020; he managed the Republic of Ireland from 1986 to 1996. The family refuses to sell, and only three 1966 winners' medals remain with English players' relatives.
