Experts struggle to identify AI-generated scams at Global Anti-Scam Summit in Asia

Scammers are using advanced technology, including AI, to create more convincing scams, making them harder to detect. At the Global Anti-Scam Summit Asia 2024, experts struggled to differentiate between real and AI-generated videos, with most failing the test. Only a few participants, including a police official, managed to identify the fake videos. The increasing sophistication of scams has contributed to rising crime rates and significant financial losses, with victims in Asia losing over US$688 billion in the past year. Globally, scammers stole an estimated US$1.02 trillion between August 2022 and August 2023, highlighting the growing scale of the problem.
