European Commission summons Shein over child abuse material on its platform

The European Commission has summoned Shein to explain the presence of child abuse material on its platform, threatening significant financial penalties. Following the discovery of illegal content, the EU executive has formally requested information from the fast-fashion giant regarding its content moderation failures and recommendation algorithms. Shein, classified as a very large online platform under the Digital Services Act, faces potential fines up to 6% of its global turnover if its response is unsatisfactory.
