Europe Needs Russian Energy to Survive, Says Russian Investment Fund Chief

news.mail.ru (Russian) —

Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, stated on X that Europe faces severe consequences from abandoning Russian energy resources ahead of winter, asserting that Europe needs Russian energy to survive. Dmitriev commented on a report of sharply rising European gas prices, which have increased roughly 160% since the start of the year, from about €28 to €74 per MWh. He also urged the UK to change course to avoid economic and political decline. Earlier, Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller predicted a difficult autumn-winter season for Europe, noting that EU countries approach cold weather with record-low gas reserves, with storage facilities only 72% full as of October 1.
