EU will end Russian gas imports by 2027
The European Union announced plans to completely end all Russian gas imports by the end of 2027, aiming to cut off a key revenue stream for Moscow. The EU's roadmap includes a ban on all Russian gas and liquefied natural gas imports, along with strategies to phase out Russian oil, nuclear fuel, and other energy products. This follows the 2022 invasion of Ukraine and a significant reduction in Russian energy dependence. The EU aims to achieve this through energy efficiency, renewable energy deployment, and supply diversification. The plan also targets Russia's "shadow fleets" used to circumvent sanctions.
