Epochal Hotels plans $20 million eco-resort on Hook Island in Queensland
Epochal Hotels has proposed a $20 million eco-resort on Hook Island, Queensland, to replace the abandoned Hook Island Lodge, which was damaged by Cyclone Anthony in 2013. This marks the first redevelopment effort since the resort's closure over a decade ago. The new resort plans to include 39 cabins, accommodating 118 overnight guests and 280 total visitors. Epochal Hotels aims to create a more efficient and sustainable facility, differing from previous attempts that struggled with outdated infrastructure. The Whitsunday Regional Council is reviewing the development application, focusing on environmental impacts and building size. The project is part of a broader trend towards luxury eco-resorts in the region, as tourism recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.
