EOS partners with Philippine institutions to advance nuclear energy
EOS Organization, an American energy solutions provider, is collaborating with local partners in the Philippines to promote nuclear energy development. On Friday, EOS signed agreements with Fulbright Philippines, Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), and the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI). EOS plans to support PNRI with funding for research and development of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technologies. This support includes a P192-million grant meant to enhance nuclear science. US Ambassador MaryKay Carlson remarked that this is the first instance of American private sector involvement in the Philippines' nuclear sector since a nuclear energy pact was signed last year. The settlement includes plans to use advanced nuclear technologies, including nuclear gigasites that can house multiple SMRs. These SMRs are advanced reactors capable of producing up to 300 megawatts each, aiming to improve safety and efficiency. EOS CEO Aaron Green stressed the importance of investing in educational opportunities to keep Filipino students engaged in nuclear innovation. With funding of up to $400,000 for Fulbright Philippines, the agreements will also support student exchange programs and specialized training in nuclear science and engineering. Julio Amador III, Fulbright Executive Director, noted this partnership could lead to increased economic security for both the Philippines and the US. The partnership with MSU-IIT will focus on developing nuclear engineering programs, preparing students for careers in the nuclear sector. Chancellor Alizedney Ditucalan expressed excitement about the opportunity for students to be involved in cutting-edge nuclear technology. The recently signed "123 agreement" between the Philippines and the US allows American companies to export nuclear materials and equipment, further encouraging investment in the local nuclear energy market. Ambassador Carlson emphasized the need for a skilled workforce to safely implement and maintain nuclear technology.
