The scammer tricked her into sending over $3,000 through gift cards over two years, believing they were in a real relationship. After the story gained attention, Iglesias warned fans on social media about celebrity impersonation scams. He urged them to only connect with his official accounts, sharing links to ensure they are accessing verified sources. Cepeda's family became suspicious and traced the scammer's phone number to Nigeria. Her husband publicly appealed to Iglesias for help, as Cepeda sought closure about the situation.
