England fan detained over book title before 2026 World Cup final
English fan Andy Milne was detained by armed police before the 2026 World Cup final because officers were alarmed by the title of a book he was carrying. The incident nearly caused him to miss the match between Spain and Argentina. Milne, a well-known England supporter who has followed the team for over 40 years, wanted to preserve his paper ticket for his collection. He placed it inside a softcover book titled "A Beginner's Guide to Hacking and Penetration" to protect it from the heat. Police at the stadium's enhanced security checkpoint flagged the book and detained him for about 15 minutes. A senior officer eventually reviewed the book, recognized the misunderstanding, and apologized while escorting Milne into the stadium. Spain won the final 1-0 with a Ferran Torres goal in extra time at the New York New Jersey stadium.
