Encinitas Deputy Mayor takes leave to care for husband
Encinitas Deputy Mayor Joy Lyndes will take a two-month leave starting March 17 to care for her husband, who has advanced cancer. She announced her decision during a City Council meeting, expressing the need to prioritize her family during this difficult time. Lyndes will not attend city or regional meetings during her leave but plans to stay informed on city issues through a communication system she is setting up. Her leave coincides with the city’s budget-setting process, which includes workshops and public hearings. Lyndes, who represents Cardiff, was appointed to the council in 2021 and elected in 2022. She is the only council member from the previous election still in her position, following significant changes in council membership.
