Elgin area news: Laughter program at library and free tax help at senior center

Debbie Friend will lead a program called “Laughter for the Health Of It” at the Gail Borden Public Library on February 5. The session will focus on laughter exercises and their health benefits. It is open to all ages and fitness levels. Free tax preparation assistance will be available at the Hanover Township Senior Center from February 5 to April 7. Appointments are required, and last year, 389 people participated in the program. Carpentersville's lead pipe replacement project has won a 2025 Engineering Excellence Award. The village removed 400 lead service lines with funding from the Illinois EPA. The award will be presented on February 26 in Rosemont.
