Egypt's president discusses Gaza crisis during Irish leaders' visit

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi met with Irish President Michael D. Higgins and Taoiseach Simon Harris to discuss the ongoing conflict in Gaza. They focused on the humanitarian crisis and the need for a ceasefire. During the talks, they also addressed the political situation in Syria and agreed on expanding international recognition of the Palestinian state. El-Sisi praised Ireland's support for Palestine. Harris raised the case of an Irish mother whose children have been in Egypt since 2022. He noted Egypt's role in facilitating the evacuation of Irish citizens from Gaza and delivering humanitarian aid.
