Egyptian Actress Shahira: Only a Handful of Artists Earn Huge Fees

Egyptian actress Shahira said artists are currently facing harassment campaigns, which has drawn the attention of the Actors' Syndicate head Dr. Ashraf Zaki, who vowed to stop them. She noted these campaigns also target non-artists. During a phone interview on Tuesday, Shahira said the attacks are directed against Egyptian women generally, with unknown motives, and dismissed any link to the recent public performance rights issue. She defended that right as legitimate for artists. Commenting on criticism over artists' fees, Shahira said only a handful of performers receive huge salaries, while thousands earn just enough for a decent living, contrary to public perception.
