Edmontonians chose magpie as city bird

Edmonton has officially selected the black-billed magpie as its city bird, following a public vote. The decision aims to increase respect for the bird. The announcement, made by Bird Friendly Edmonton, revealed the magpie secured nearly 40% of over 40,000 votes. The intelligent bird, known for its iridescent feathers, beat out other local species. This selection aligns with Edmonton's 2022 Bird Friendly City certification, promoting bird safety. The decision was announced on World Migratory Bird Day at Big Lake.
