Edgefield County opens new $42.5 million law enforcement center to enhance public safety

Edgefield County has completed its new $42.5 million Law Enforcement Center, which will begin operations next month. This facility will house the Sheriff’s Office under one roof for the first time in 20 years and includes a courtroom for magistrates. The new center can accommodate 134 inmates, significantly expanding capacity from the previous jail, which was condemned in 2019 due to overcrowding. The facility is designed for long-term growth and includes modern amenities like a central command center and a full kitchen. Local officials celebrated the opening on January 17, with over 120 attendees touring the 67,000-square-foot building. Funding for the center came from a combination of public support and state grants, reflecting community investment in law enforcement.
