easyJet cancels Boa Vista-Porto flight, stranding passengers

Around 130 passengers were affected by Tuesday's cancellation of an easyJet flight from Boa Vista, Cape Verde, to Porto, Portugal, with some still awaiting a solution, according to travelers. One passenger stated the airline has provided "zero responses." The flight was canceled after the aircraft was stranded in Basel, Switzerland, due to air traffic control restrictions from adverse weather in Central Europe, easyJet said. Passengers report some found alternative routes through their travel agencies at their own cost, while others remain on the island without an official return date, with some lacking regular medication. easyJet says it offered free transfers to the next available flight or full refunds, with reasonable expenses for self-arranged alternatives to be reimbursed. The airline began Cape Verde operations in October 2024, expanding to Boa Vista in October 2025, as tourism drives over 70% of the country's exports.
